A Bar In Pau Which Breathed Life Into My Soul - Look Over Cautiously In Order To Find Out Far More
Getting a good bar in Pau was important to me; but finding live music was even more crucial to my survival. Some people smoke, some drink, my vice as well as the one thing which can feed my soul is music. Music inside my books needs to be live. Yes, as i write this there's Jazz being subtracted from my stereo, but that is just comfort, not a source of life.
In some ways I am easily pleased with regards to a choice of music, I do not need to see the great and good perform in acoustically outstanding concert halls. I need, and want is not an understatement, to hear the enthusiastic and talented perform as if there life depended on it. My work has taken me to a lot of cities, and i have followed my passion for music in most of these; each place has provided an entirely new experience.
There is however, a trend. The larger the city or town the more you have to travel. Have you ever noticed that inside a big city a venue will specialise, they'll have jazz, or funk, or classical, however , you rarely have them all within the same month at the same venue. This is where small towns come into their own. I found a bar in Pau with has all types of music. It is a small venue and a little town, so they can not be too picky. But they get individuals who actually want to play. These musicians are not being sent to play by their agents, they are playing their hearts out because they want to.
I resulted in early on a Friday night and was initially slightly concerned. There did not appear to be a huge amount of atmosphere. The staff were all sitting around a table eating their diner and i had to wait a few minuets before I was served, regardless of there being less than 10 people within the place.
I soon discovered that everyone else in the place knew each other. I sat at the bar and then watched as gradually the place chock-full. As each new man or woman arrived they were welcomed by a member of the growing original group.
I have to admit, and this is no compliment to my intelligence, it took me a while to realise that this was not an instance someone inviting his friends along and developing a make shift party. This was in fact an instance of how the Palois live. Pau is a vibrant city, but it still seems to imagine that it is a village. As a result everybody knows everyone. Before the night was out I'd met lots more people than I do know in my home town in England.
I had actually found a bar in Pau which fed my need for live music, was the center of a community and also was to become the heart of my world so long as I had been living with the Palois.
